In 2023, the number of women working in construction increased by 41,000, bringing the total to approximately 340,000. While this growth is encouraging, women still make up only a fraction of the industry, with 15% of the workforce identifying as female, just 7% in executive roles, and only 1% in manual trades. As we celebrate Women in Construction Week, we think it is important to recognise the talented women at the heart of the business who continue to break the mold and reshape the industry for the better. Whether they are managing multiple complex projects or keeping CFS operations ticking over on a day to day basis, here are some of the amazing women who CFS wouldn’t be CFS without.

Having always had an interest in unique buildings, Karina studied Interior Architecture at Portsmouth University and then went on to complete a masters in Project Management. Her passion for the built environment and her problem solving skills led her to CFS where she has now worked for over 2 years. Karina thrives in her role, where she manages multiple varied and complex projects. She enjoys the challenge of overseeing different aspects of construction, from design coordination to on-site problem-solving.

Nikki first began her career with CFS nearly 8 years ago. Beginning her career as Sales Administrator, Nikki progressed Head of Project Management and has successfully delivered multiple projects often simultaneously. What she loves most about her role is the variety and challenge that comes with each day. No two projects are the same, and she thrives on finding solutions, managing multiple stakeholders, and working with a diverse range of personalities.

For the past ten years, Marta has been a key figure in the operations team at CFS. As an Operations Coordinator, she plays a crucial role in ensuring everything runs smoothly, from negotiating with suppliers to upholding top-tier standards. Her wealth of knowledge and experience makes her an invaluable member of the team and we would be lost without her!

We at CFS believe it is our responsibility to increase this statistic to encourage more women to consider a career in construction. We are proud to report that 33% of our workforce identify as female, well above the current industry average.

We encourage you to take the time to recognise someone from your organisation this week. Let’s continue to support, uplift, and empower women in construction—because when we build together, we build stronger.
